Let’s end the week with another 80’s movie to view and keep our spirits up. This one has become a cult classic and it is very entertaining. I am referring to Pee-wee’s Big Adventure (check out the trailer).
A lot of us will remember Pee-wee’s Playhouse which was on Saturday mornings. Do you remember Lawrence Fishburne as Cowboy Curtis? Well in 1985, Pee-wee jumped to the big screen.
In this film Pee-wee played by the incredible Paul Reubens, is the owner of this very interesting bike. A bike that he adores above and beyond anything else in his life. So of course this bike gets stolen and Pee-wee spends the film trying desperately to get it back.
Now I am purposefully vague on the content of this movie because there are jokes hiding around every corner and they are worth discovering on your own. The magic of this film is the cast which is comprised of no-name actors who are very good at what they do. The film is silly yet very endearing. The situations are ridiculous yet hilarious. This cross country adventure is very unique and carries Pee-wee’s signature comedy. The grown-up adolescent character, who has a joie de vie and childlike outlook at life which is magical. His innocence is what carries this film and keeps us laughing.
Watch this movie. And if you want a little more adult comedy then check out Paul Reuben’s adult Pee-wee show that was shown on Broadway.
